Launching later this year
The Mercedes-Benz
GLS has been spied undergoing testing at home in Germany ahead of this year's
launch.
Daimler's largest SUV is one of the many models affected by
the new
nomenclature and as a consequence the "GL" name will be dropped in favor of "GLS" to better show the model's similarity in size with the S-Class. Despite
getting a new name, the GLS will only be a facelift of the current generation
so the styling tweaks will be limited.
Expect revised headlights and taillights, updated grille
along with slightly modified bumpers while on the inside there should also be some
changes to spice up the cabin and will likely have a lot in common with the GLE
Coupe.
A more luxurious Maybach
version could join the range with a higher specification interior cabin
where the rear passengers will likely be pampered with individual seats
offering lots of adjustment options. In addition, a Mercedes-Maybach GLS would
likely get a slightly longer wheelbase and a few subtle exterior touches like
the Maybach-specific wheels, grille and the compulsory badging.
Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed
the GL facelift / GLS will be out this year so chances are it will premiere in
September at the Frankfurt Motor Show before going on sale towards the end of
the year as a 2016MY.
