The 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback represents the essence of the Ford Mustang, but finding one in good conditions after more than 40 years can get pretty difficult.

This is where the custom-car builder Retrobuilt comes into picture. Retrobuilt took a modern Mustang — a 2013 GT version in this instance — and transformed it so it looks the part of a 1969 Mach 1 Fastback without the hustle and bustle to find one, restore it and maintain it. The car is built on an S197 chassis and is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 engine with an output of 420 ponies.

The work of getting a new car to look like a 40-year-old one is, of course, pretty difficult and the team behind the project required hours of work. Almost everything in the car has been changed, ranging from minor elements — door handles and other little trim pieces - up to the major changes made under the hood. The resulting creation, however, is worth all of the work. This 1969 Retrobuilt Mustang is faster than the original model to boot, as it goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds — the true 1969 model did the same sprint in 5.7 seconds.

The lucky guys over AutoBlog were invited by the Retrobuilt team to test its latest project and it looks like they were impressed!

Hit the source link to learn more about the technology behind this project and what AutoBlog thinks about this amazing muscle car.

Brabus will likely have the busiest stand at the Essen Motor Show. Here is yet another incredible tuning package launched by the German tuner. It is based on the Mercedes SL500 and will add plenty of extra pop its base engine, as well as exterior and interior upgrades.

Under the hood, Brabus installed 520 PowerXtra CGI module with plug-and-play design, an auxiliary water-to-air intercooler powered by an auxiliary electric pump and, of course, a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with four chrome-plated tailpipes.

As a result, the output has been increased from the standard 435 horsepower to 520 horsepower, while peak torque has been raised to 604 pound-feet. Brabus uninstalled the speed limiter and replaced it with a variable one that allows the customer to choose from a top speed of 155, 172 or 186 mph. This upgrade also allows the SL500 to launch from a stop to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

The exterior receives some significant updates, including new front fenders with side air vents, new side skirts and a new rear spoiler. Brabus also added a set of wheels, offered in four different sizes — 18, 19 and 20 inches — and in three designs, Monoblock F, Q or R wheels. The wheels have been combined with custom-tailored suspension components, which were designed in cooperation with Bilstein, and an electronic lowering module that can lower the car's ride by 0.98 inches.

BMW M 135i by AC Schnitzer

Up from 320 HP

AC Schnitzer will be launching an upgrade program for the BMW M 135i this week at the Essen Motor Show.

In its standard configuration, the six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine produces 320 HP (235 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, but after AC Schnitzer works its magic power is increased to 360 HP (265 kW) without increasing CO2 emissions.

They also have a custom suspension spring kit and various types of wheels in sizes up to 20 inches. A chromed "Racing" exhaust tailpipe is also available and a two-piece front spoiler. On the outside the M 135i can get a loading lip protection film, color-matched design stripes and a rear roof spoiler.

Moving inside there's an aluminum Black Line gear knob or you can choose the illuminated leather-wrapped gear knob. AC Schnitzer is also offering the Black Line aluminum cover for the i-Drive, another gear knob with a digital gear display, aluminum handbrake handle with chrome accents, custom velour floor mats and an aluminum foot rest.

2014 Corvette now available in Gran Turismo 5 as camouflaged prototype [video]

Free download

A 2014 Chevrolet Corvette (C7) camo prototype is now available for free in Gran Turismo 5.

Approximately two weeks ago, we saw a short clip with the new Corvette in GT5 and now the car is officially available as a free download. As you would expect, this is a camouflaged prototype of the C7 which means that we will have to wait until January 13 when the car gets its public unveiling at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

To refresh your memory, the 2014 Corvette will be powered by a new LT1 V8 6.2-liter engine that generates about 450 hp (336 kW) and 450 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque. This should prove to be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in less than 4 seconds. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 26 mpg US (31.2 mpg UK or 9 liters / 100 km).

Yesterday, Manhart unveiled the M5 MH5 S Biturbo and now the tuner is moving its attention to the BMW M3 convertible. This new tuning package was inspired by the MH3 V8 RS Clubsport package and takes the output in the M3 Convertible up to a nearly excessive 655 horses!

In order to obtain this amazing increase, Manhart replaced the car's standard 4.0-liter V-8 with a larger 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine borrowed from the X6 M. After some software upgrades and the addition of a new Akrapovic Evolution Titanium exhaust system, the output spiked to 655 ponies and the torque shot up to 719 pound-feet. As a result, the MH3 V8 R Biturbo can hit a ridiculous top speed of 198 mph.

In order to handle the extra 235 horses on tap, Manhart fitted the M3 with am MHR braking system that features four-piston calipers and 396 mm (15.6-inch) brake discs on the front axle and 374 mm (14.7-inch) brake discs on the rear axle. Also strapped to this incredible M3 is a set of 20-inch MHR Concave One Ultra-light forged wheels wrapped tightly in high-performance tires sized 255/30ZR20 up front and 305/25ZR20 at the back.

On the exterior, the changes were minimal and include a carbon-fiber hood with GTR air intakes, mirror caps and diffuser. Just the way we like it, just a little show but plenty of go!

A while ago a heavily camouflaged Chevrolet Corvette C7 was spotted in Gran Turismo 5 and everyone imagined that the car will be making its virtual debut earlier than the real-world one. Today, Chevrolet and Sony have confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 players can indeed enjoy a first-of-its-kind driving experience of a camouflaged Corvette C7 prototype.

While developing this virtual prototype, designers from Chevy and Polyphony Digital paid attention to even the tiniest details and tried to replicate the real car by as much as possible. Unfortunately, they opted for a soft camouflage to keep the car's design a secret until its world debut in January. You didn't really think they would unveil the car in a video game, did you?

"Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing. "Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience."

2013 Toyota RAV4 officially unveiled in L.A. [video]

Goes on sale early next year

After numerous leaks, Toyota has officially unveiled the 2013 RAV4 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Set to go on sale early next year, the redesigned crossover has a sportier appearance with a rounded front fascia, a slopping roofline and distinctive rear quarter windows. The model also adopts a roof-hinged liftgate that promises to be more convenient than the previous side-hinged door.

The interior boasts an asymmetrical dashboard which incorporates ambient lighting, secondary controls and a 6.1-inch touchscreen display. There's also has a three-spoke steering wheel, metallic accents and circular air vents. Entry-level models are sparsely equipped but higher-end variants can be ordered with leather upholstery, an Entune infotainment system and an 11-speaker JBL GreenEdge premium audio system.

Power is provided exclusively by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 176 bhp (131 kW) and 172 lb-ft (233 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a new six-speed transmission that enables the model to return 24 mpg city / 31 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 22 mpg city / 29 mpg highway with the optional all-wheel drive system.

Speaking of the all-wheel drive system, it offers three different modes: Auto, Lock and Sport. Auto Mode primarily sends power to the front wheels but will automatically engage the rear wheels when needed. Lock Mode, on the other hand, evenly distributes power between the front- and rear wheels at speeds less than 25 mph (40 km/h). Lastly, Sport Mode promises to improve the crossover's handling by instantaneous transferring torque to the rear wheels when going around corners.

2014 Acura RLX debuts in Los Angeles [videos]

Goes on sale next spring

Acura's previous flagship never really caught on with buyers, so the company is taking a new approach by unveiling the 2014 RLX in Los Angeles.

Described as the "most powerful, spacious and technologically advanced Acura sedan ever," the RLX has conservative styling with a prominent grille, distinctive "Jewel-Eye" LED headlights and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The model also features acoustic glass, rain-sensing windshield wipers and side mirrors with integrated turn signals.

While the exterior isn't terribly exciting, the cabin has a sporty and luxurious feel as it comes nicely equipped with leather seats, metallic accents and two large LCD displays: an 8-inch Navigation screen and a 7-inch "On-Demand Multi-Use Display" which mercifully eliminates the insane number of buttons that Acura used on the RL. Other highlights include a power tilt / telescoping steering column, a sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control and 10-speaker ELS audio system with HD radio, XM radio, Pandora, USB connectivity and an auxiliary input jack.

At launch, the model will be available exclusively with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is rated at 310 bhp (231 kW) and 272 lb-ft (368 Nm) of torque. Thanks to Variable Cylinder Management - which deactivates three-cylinders when they aren't needed - and a six-speed automatic transmission, the model is expected to have a best-in-class fuel economy rating of 20 mpg city / 31 mpg highway / 24 mpg combined (US).

To ensure the car is nimbler than its size suggests, the RLX has been equipped with a Precision All-Wheel Steer system that independently and continuously controls the left and right rear-wheel steering angles for unparalleled handling, agility and maneuverability.

The Acura RLX will go on sale in the spring of 2013 and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

2014 U.S.-spec Ford Fiesta ST heading to L.A. Auto Show [video]

More powerful than Euro-spec version

Ford is bringing the U.S.-spec version of its 2014 Fiesta ST to the 2012 L.A. Auto Show.

It is powered by a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces an estimated 197 hp (147 kW) and 214 lb-ft (290 Nm) of torque. This makes it more powerful than its European counterpart which offers 178 hp (132 kW) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque.

It will be sold exclusively as a 5-door hatchback and with a 6-speed manual gearbox that enables the hot hatch to return 34 mpg (40.8 mpg UK or 6.9 liters / 100 km). It comes with a bespoke front grille and chin spoiler with a redesigned rear diffuser and fascia extensions. The Fiesta ST rides on 17-inch alloys and features dual exhaust pipes and a high-mounted spoiler.

Compared to the standard version, the ST model sits 15mm lower while the rear axle has received increased roll stiffness for improving stability through corners. Suspension tweaks are also included, as well as Torque Vectoring Control that diminishes understeer. It also comes with a three-mode electronic stability control: standard, sport and off.

Subaru BRZ STI arriving next spring with 230 hp and no turbo - report

Subaru BRZ STI concept live in Los Angeles 16.11.2011

To cost 27,000 GBP

The Subaru BRZ STI should arrive in showrooms next spring and is expected to cost around 27,000 GBP.

We saw a concept version at last year's L.A. Auto Show, and now Auto Express is reporting that a production model is slated for a spring launch in Japan, followed soon after by United States and Europe.

The most important news is that it won't be turbocharged due to engine bay space limitations as there isn't enough room to squeeze in an intercooler. The good news is that power will be raised at up to 230 hp (171 kW) thanks to variable valve control system tweaks and an increased rev limit past 7,500 rpm. Dampers and springs will also be upgraded, along with the addition of four-piston STI brakes and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in grippier rubbers.

In terms of design, the BRZ STI will get a front lip spoiler, updated grille, different side skirts and a large rear wing. Bucket seats and additional dials are expected inside the cabin.

Audi R8 gets a Grandiose body kit from Regula Tuning

Audi R8 by Regula Tuning 26.11.2012

Features revised styling and an upgraded V10 engine

The Audi R8 has always been stunning, but that hasn't stopped Regula Tuning from trying to improve the car's appearance.

Designed to make the model look like a race car, the €7,698 "grandiose" body kit is constructed out of aramid (aromatic polyamide) fibers and includes a new front bumper and mesh grille inserts. There's also a spoiler and a ventilated rear fascia with an integrated diffuser. Last but not least, the model rides on 20-inch Oxigin wheels that are 8.5 inches wide at the front and 11 inches wide at the rear.

Performance modifications are fairly limited, but the company offers a €1,398 upgrade package which enables the R8 V10 to produce 560 HP (412 kW).

Audi considering R10 diesel hybrid supercar

Bembli Design Audi R10 facelift rendering 23.03.2011 / Bembli Design

Sitting above the R8

Audi is considering a diesel hybrid supercar which would be slotted above the R8.

Set to rival the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari's Enzo replacement, this Audi hypercar could wear the R10 moniker and feature some tech developed for the 2012 R18 e-tron that managed to win this year's Le Mans.

Audi technical development chief Wolfgang Durheimer gave an interview to Auto Express saying "there is definitely room for a super sports car above the R8" and if they would make it a diesel hybrid "it could be a hot-seller".

It could provide a combined power output of about 700 hp (522 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque that would enable it to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in three seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

The MINI rival is commercialized in more than 100 countries from all over the world and is also being manufactured in Toluca, Mexico since last year to meet U.S. demand. The city car is offered in six trim levels, five engines and two body styles (plus 500L going on sale in 2013).

We all know that Jaguar will be unveiling the new XFR-S sports sedan next week at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show next to the new F-Type roadster. But, the company now announced that a special "Black Pack" F-Type will also be on display on its stand.

As its name suggests, the new Black pack will add lots of black elements. A distinctive gloss black finish will be added to the alloy wheels, the grille and window surrounds and it will be combined with a limited list of body color options. And, for an even more aggressive look the package will add smoked lights and blacked-out mirrors. The same black treatment will continue on the interior.

The new Black Pack will go on sale in the same time with the F-Type - mid-spring 2013 - and will add an extra $1,600 to the car’s total price. It will be offered for both V6 and V8 engine configurations.

2014 Mercedes C-Class spied inside and out

2014 Mercedes C-Class spy photo 21.11.2012 / Automedia

Has an A-Class inspired front fascia

Thanks to a little bit of luck and a telephoto lens our spies have been able to catch some revealing new pictures of the 2014 Mercedes C-Class.

Starting with the exterior, the model gains an A-Class inspired front fascia with a prominent grille, sweptback headlights and a sporty lower intake. Additional details are hard to make out but the rear end appears to have an evolutionary design with rounded surfaces.

The car's dashboard is partially covered, but we can see the cabin will adopt higher quality materials and more curved surfaces. Notable highlights include circular air vents, metallic accents and a new COMAND controller. There's also an S-Class inspired center stack which resides under a large infotainment display.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised if the model adopts several of the four-cylinder units that are offered in the A- and B-Class. There have also been rumors of a three-cylinder variant as well as a hybrid that could use an electric motor which produces approximately 27 PS (20 kW / 27 hp).

Jaguar X-Type successor coming in 2015 - report

Jaguar XJ Ultimate 23.04.2012

Two crossovers could also be in the works

New details are starting to emerge about Jaguar's future product lineup.

First and foremost, the company is reportedly working on an X-Type successor - codenamed X760 - for 2015. It is slated to ride on the premium lightweight architecture (PLA) and be available with rear and all-wheel drive. The model could also spawn a crossover variant in 2016, but nothing is official as of yet.

We can also expect a redesigned XF which is internally dubbed X260. The model will be offered as a sedan and wagon, but there's also word of a third body style - most likely a crossover.

Rounding out the sedan lineup, the next-generation XJ (X360) is slated for 2017. Up to three different versions are planned including a sedan (which may or may not be more conservative than today's model), a Mercedes CLS-like four-door coupe and a high-end variant that will reportedly "be even more desirable than a Bentley Continental Flying Spur for half the price.”

In the short term, we can expect the F-Type lineup to grow to include a coupe, an all-wheel drive variant and a high-performance RS.

Lastly, the next-generation XK is expected to move up market and feature more powerful engines. Little else is known about the model, but it will reportedly be larger than today's car and ride on an updated version of its current platform.

The Hyundai Veloster is a fun little car that possesses enough power without having to be a pocket burner. There’s a certain level of charisma attached to this sports hatch that few in its segment can replicate.

That’s why the Veloster can appear in a promo video like this without looking out of place. The video is actually a promo for the latest version of "Asphalt 7: Heat" — the iPhone and iPad driving game — and a competition that Hyundai is running in conjunction with the game’s developers, hence the Veloster Turbo’s starring role.

The winners of the competition will get a pretty fancy reward: an all-expenses paid trip to Hyundai’s headquarters in South Korea on top of another trip to the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Hop on over to Hyundai’s website to find out more about the competition. Remember, though, it ends this Sunday, November 25, so it’s best to be act quickly on it.

In the meantime, check out the promo video. It makes for an entertaining watch seeing the Veloster Turbo race in the Asphalt 7 world. As a Lego, no less.

This video, or pair of videos, just goes to show the thrills and perils of getting involved in drag racing, especially when you have a 2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet that’s just itching to pounce off of that starting line.

The muscle car flexes its insane muscles in the beginning, performing a scintillating wheelie as soon as the lights drops to green. After that visual spectacle of power, the driver suddenly loses control of the Mustang Cobra Jet, sending it careening into the barricades of the Cecil County Dragway in Northeast Maryland.

The ABM Nationals was the scene of the wheelie turned crash and fortunately for the driver of the Mustang Cobra Jet, the resulting chaos didn’t come with any injuries for him. We can’t say so much for the Mustang, as it took some serious damage.

Check out the video of the wheelie and crash from inside the Mustang Cobra Jet after the jump.

The Aprilia RX 50 was the first enduro bike that managed to combine with success the off road riding with street riding.

Like the Aprilia SX 50, the RX 50 is fitted with a relativelly compact liquid cooled, single cylinder two stroke 50 cc engine, mated on a 6 speed transmission. Despite its small displacement, the 50 cc unit has enough grunt to keep you out of trouble on the toughest off road tracks but also on the paved roads.

The engine is mounted on a steel frame, which is especially designed for off road conditions. The suspensions were also tuned to deal with the tough conditions of off-road riding and consist of a front 40 mm hydraulic fork with leading axle and a rear steel swingarm combined with a hydraulic monoshock. The bike is kept in check by a front 300 mm ventilated disc and a rear 180 mm stainless steel disc.

Car Crash: Mechanic Wrecks a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Car Crash Mechanic Wrecks a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Just over a week ago this unlucky Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 was in the process of having its MOT test, an annual test in the UK for cars older than three-years-old, when the mechanic driving it clipped a kerb and was spun into a parked Ford Focus.

The crash happened in Kendal, the north of England, when the Mechanic had taken the LP640 for a short road to test the efficiency of the brakes. This sort of test is usually done on a rolling road, but given the ground clearance and the fact the LP640 is a 4WD, the test was preformed on the open roads with the use of a brakeforce meter.

The mechanic says that the crash was a result of wet roads, leaves and a 'featherweight' accelerator, causing him to clip a kerb that spun him into a parked Ford Focus. The later stages of this can be seen in the video below.

The owner of the LP640 estimates that there is about 20,000 worth of damage to the car, and even when its fixed it’s future resale value will be heavily hit due to the crash.

Rumours: 2014 Range Rover Sport R-S

2014 Range Rover Sport RS Spyshot

Land Rover is currently testing the 2014 model of their new Range Rover Sport model. In a recent interview with Car Advice, Land Rover's director of chassis engineering David Waide, said that the company is considering sportier offerings to capitalise on buyers willing to pay a premium for focused variants.

It's one of the areas which the business can expand. You've seen this with Jaguar and its XKR-S edition. They've done very well with the R-S model. So there's the ability to do those sorts of things with Land Rover product.

The director mentioned also that a potential Range Rover Sport 'R-S' would not relate to a Porsche Cayenne GTS, which he believes is the sportiest SUV in the segment.

If you compare [the XKR-S] with the Porsche equivalents it's not as sporty; it's as quick, it sounds fantastic, but it's also more comfortable. It's got a balance between GT product and ultimate sports car.

The chassis chief says he is also not chasing SUV-benchmark lap times on for instance the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

We're not interested in lap times per se. We're looking much more at the Nurburgring to show that we can stand up to a very sporty driving style on road. For some customers who want some level of track use. They don't buy that car thinking they can get the ultimate time around the Nurburgring for an SUV. What we are looking to do with the Range Rover Sport is provide a very sporty on-road experience, and it's more about driver reward and interaction and involvement. It's a car that you can really enjoy driving.

It looks as though the second generation Range Rover Sport will get the same characteristic sloping roof as the model it replaces. Expect styling cues to come from the highly successful Range Rover Evoque and weight saving measures by using the all-aluminium monocoque architecture from the new Range Rover.

For the first time the company will also sell a Range Rover Sport with seven seats, giving large families the option of buying a Land Rover that isn't a Discovery.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage on ADV.1 Wheels by RSC Tuning

Aston Martin Vantage by RSC Tuning

American tuner RSC Tuning did a project some time back based on an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which they fitted with AVD5.0TS wheels, a three-piece Track Spec contoured wheel from ADV.1 Wheels. These particular ones on the Vantage feature titanium centers and brushed gunmental lips.

The front axle was bolted with 20×9 inches of the wheels while the rear axle received 20×11 inches of the same. With a combination of lightweight, high strength forged aluminum step lip rim with the deep concave forging profiles the Aston Martin forced out a wonderful looking stance as the photoshoot by William Stern Photography reveals.
