German car magazine Autobild.de created this rendering of the upcoming 2014 Rolls-Royce Corniche Coupe. The rendering follows several spyshots shared with you over the past few weeks. A coupe would be a logical step for the British luxury brand, mirroring the product life cycle of the more expensive Phantom.
BMW recently applied to trademark the name Corniche so speculation is that the new model could revive the legendary Rolls-Royce name. A 2014 market debut looks likely and the design will probably feature two doors, a low-slung shape and that iconic Rolls-Royce grille. The overall proportions are said to be slightly smaller than the four-door Ghost with different styling and the front and rear end.
Power and specs should mimic the Ghost with its 6.6 liter twin-turbo charged V12 engine which produces 563hp and 780Nm of torque at just 1,500rpm. It features an eight-speed automatic transmission and shares a heavily modified platform with BMW's latest 7-Series.
Improved agility is provided by an improved suspension, bigger tyres, reduced weight and size and a chassis lowered by 10mm. The top speed will be limited to 250km/h, but the coupe's 0-100mph acceleration is expected to be considerably faster than that of the already quick Ghost saloon.
An EX concept version of the car will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, followed by the production model at the 2013 IAA Frankfurt show.
