Volkswagen Bulli concept - 28.02.2011
Due in 2019
German media is reporting the next generation Volkswagen Beetle will spawn a sub-lineup consisting of retro-styled models.
According to Auto Bild, 2019 will be the year when Volkswagen is going to finally introduce a production version of the Bulli concept which will be longer and taller than the Beetle, with enough room inside to carry up to five passengers.
There will also be a high-riding crossover as a spiritual successor of the 2014 Beetle Dune concept that was unveiled in January at NAIAS in Detroit. It will be available with the 4Motion system and could be offered in a hybrid variant, along with a variety of frugal three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.
That's not all as Volkswagen is reportedly planning a sporty Beetle Coupe with 300 bhp (224 kW) and all-wheel drive. It will feature a unique hood and should come with narrow windows together with a high beltline, while under the hood it will also get the Golf GTD's 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbodiesel developing 181 hp (135 kW) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm).
2019 is still a long way so for now we should take these rumors with a pinch of salt.
