Alfa Romeo Gloria concept at 2013 Geneva Motor Show
First all-new model expected in 2015
Alfa Romeo has a history of building stylish and sporty sedans, but their current lineup doesn't reflect this prestigious pedigree. In an effort to set things right, the company will reportedly drop the Mito and Giulietta to focus exclusively on rear- and all-wheel drive models.
The bold plan calls for Alfa Romeo to work with Maserati to develop a new modular platform which will be used to underpin two sedans and two crossovers. The first model, the oft-delayed Giulia, is expected to be launched in 2015 and challenge the BMW 3-Series. A year later we can expect an Alfetta which will reportedly battle the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class. We can also expect an entry-level crossover to the battle the BMW X1 in 2017 and a larger model to tackle the X3 in 2018.
Little else is known about the vehicles but they will reportedly have sporty styling and dramatic proportions. They could also be equipped with Maserati's twin-turbo V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
