Promotes the company's dynamic steering system
Everyone from Audi to Tesla is working on an autonomous driving system, but who knew you only needed a carrot and a hamster named Charlie. All jokes aside, Volvo has released a new video which promotes their dynamic steering system in the FMX.
Filmed at a quarry in Spain, the "Hamster Stunt" shows how easy it is to drive the FMX. Using a specially modified steering wheel, which was equipped with a hamster treadmill, stunt driver Seon Rogers was able to get a hamster to steer the truck by tempting him with a carrot.
While the dynamic steering system is based on a conventional mechanical steering system, it has been equipped with an electric motor that provides extra force at low speeds. It also "automatically regulates the steering and compensates for irregularities that feed through to the steering wheel." Thanks to this setup, drivers can steer the massive truck with just one finger - or hamster in this case.
