2014 BMW 1-Series GT returns to the Ring [video]

Could be introduced early next year

Development work continues on the 2014 BMW 1-Series GT as the model has been spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.

Dressed in heavy camouflage, the prototype doesn't reveal much but recent patent filings have shown the production model will closely resemble the Concept Active Tourer but adopt a revised front fascia with more conventional headlights. We can also expect a new rear bumper, larger taillights and a traditional exhaust system.

Under the hood, we can expect a variety of three- and four-cylinder engines. Detailed specifications haven't been released but BMW has previously stated their 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder will have outputs ranging from 82 HP (60 kW) to 224 HP (165 kW).

The 2014 BMW 1-Series GT could be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, but nothing is official as of yet.
