Could it be headed to the Corvette?

American automakers haven't had the best luck with dual-clutch transmissions but that hasn't stopped General Motors from filing a patent for a new seven-speed gearbox.

Recently noticed by Corvette Forum, the patent application suggests the company's extensive range of six-speed automatics could be going the way of the dodo. Some of these will be replaced by the company's new eight-speed automatic but it seems logical that the seven-speed DCT could be used in high-performance or higher-end models.

There's no word on when the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission could go into production but early speculation suggests it could be introduced in the Corvette. Previous reports have also suggested the 2016 Camaro could get a dual-clutch transmission but nothing is official as of yet.
