Fiat is advertising this new Panda as the only 4x4 model in the A-segment. As you would expect, it is based on the standard 5-door Panda hatchback and it is 3680mm long, 1670mm wide and 1600mm tall, with a 2300mm wheelbase. It has a front track of 1410mm and a rear track of 1400mm, while the styling looks a bit more rugged when compared to the regular variant.

We notice the underbody protection, plastic body cladding and a bunch of aluminum accents, while the ride height has been increased. It features 15-inch alloys with 175/65 R15 M+S rubbers and a “torque on demand” transmission system with electronically controlled coupling and two differentials. As the name suggest, this Panda has a permanent four-wheel drive system which is being managed by an electronic control unit that can distribute the proportion “homogenously and proportionally” depending on the road conditions.

The 2013 Fiat Panda 4x4 will be available with either a 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo gasoline engine with 84 hp (63 kW) or a 1.3-liter MultiJet II diesel that produces 74 hp (55 kW). Both engines feature stop/start and are connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox that has a low-range first gear.

As far as the suspension is concerned, up front there’s an independent MacPherson arrangement while at the back it’s an interconnected wheel with a torsion beam configuration that was custom made for this 4WD variant of the Panda.
