Engines fail to meet the company's strict standards for noise, vibration and harshness
BMW is one of the biggest champions of inline-six cylinder engines but a new report is indicating the company has been flirting with V6s.
Citing company engineers, Road & Track says BMW "regularly" develops and tests their own V6 engines. The news might strike fear into the hearts of BMW fans but the engines are reportedly built to satisfy internal policies and fail to meet the company's strict standards for noise, vibration and harshness.
While we shouldn't expect to see a BMW V6 anytime soon, the company will likely be joined by a variety of competitors with new inline six-cylinder engines. Nothing is official but rumors have suggested that both Jaguar and Mercedes are developing a new range of straight sixes.
