Could have cylinder deactivation technology

The 2014 Mercedes C-Class might be getting all the attention but Audi is also working on a new A4.

Set to be introduced next year, the redesigned model will reportedly have muscular styling and a "three-dimensional" grille. The car could also be equipped with LED-infused headlights and a distinctive rear spoiler. Overall, it reportedly measure 4,701mm long, 1,826mm wide and 1417-1437mm tall.

Little is known about the cabin but it is slated to receive a modern MMI infotainment system with a touchpad controller. The A4 could also have a head up display and a new rearview mirror with an integrated information display.

Under the hood, there will reportedly be a 1.4-liter TSI four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation technology and outputs of 122 HP (89 kW) and 180 HP (132 kW). There could also be an upgraded 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine with 225 HP (165 kW) and a plug-in hybrid variant that has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 95 HP (70 kW) electric motor. The latter model will reportedly be able to travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electricity alone
