The New Acura NSX Is Finally Here!

After years of teasing us with the new-generation NSX, Acura has finally unveiled the final production version today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It's been 10 years since the last generation Acura NSX halted production, and Acura has delivered on their promise of an all new NSX. However, Acura is very tight lipped about final performance figures of the NSX for now.

The exterior of the new Acura NSX remains largely unchanged from the concept that Acura unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Autoshow. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as it still looks very futuristic even today. It will be built on a chassis made from a mix of advanced materials, such as carbon fiber, an aluminum spaceframe, and high-strength steel alloys. Moreover, this is the first time that Acura has shown the interior of the car. Dubbed by Acura as the "human support cockpit", it looks to be a handsome interior with some styling flair to match the exterior, yet not overdone to the point of excess.

It has been known for quite some time that the new NSX will be powered by a hybrid powertrain system, not unlike the new Porsche 918 Spyder and it's competitors. Like the 918, the NSX will have a mid-mounted internal combustion engine, augmented by an electric engine on each axle. The internal combustion engine in question here is a twin-turbo longitudinally mounted V6. Acura hasn't specified the exact amount of combined horsepower, but they said it will be over 550 hp. Power will be handled by a proprietary nine speed dual clutch transmission developed by Honda specifically for the new NSX. It will also have Acura's SH-AWD system with an advanced torque-vectoring system. All these things combined mean that the NSX should be a component track car.

Pricing is expected to be around the $150,000 USD mark, which puts it squarely in the sights of the BMW i8, and probably the new Ford GT, which also unveiled today in Detroit. This price range has become a battle ground for new, innovative supercars. If you have the money to buy a car in this price range, you are seriously spoiled for choices right now.
