Won't be a radical departure from the current model
The Volkswagen Golf VII is only two years old but new details are starting to emerge about the next-generation model.
While previous reports have suggested the car have suggested the model will have an aerodynamic XL1-inspied exterior, Car Magazine is reporting it will have an evolutionary design that won't "shake the boat too radically."
In fact, the whole model sounds pretty evolutionary as it is slated to ride an updated version of the MQB platform and feature a number of improvements including updated safety and infotainment systems.
Despite the déjà vu, we can expect a number of eco-friendly touches including an engine start/stop system, cylinder deactivation technology and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with coasting mode.
Speaking of engines, they are rumored to include:
- A 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol with 110 bhp (82 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque
- A 1.4-liter three-cylinder diesel with 105 bhp (78 kW) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque
- A 1.2-liter TSI with 110 bhp (82 kW) and 129 lb-ft (175 Nm) of torque
- A 1.4-liter TSI with 150 bhp (112 kW) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque
- A 1.8-liter TSI with 190 bhp (141 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque
- A 1.6-liter TDI with 110 bhp (82 kW) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque
- A 2.0-liter TDI with 150 bhp (112 kW) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque
- A 2.0-liter TDI with 190 bhp (141 kW) and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque
