Clash of the titans
The SRT Viper and Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series are radically different takes on the same idea so which one has the formula for success?
In one corner, you have the SRT Viper which features an 8.4-liter V10 engine that develops 640 bhp (477 kW) and 600 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission which enables the 3,354 lbs (1,521 kg) sports car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in the "low 3-second range," run the quarter-mile in the "mid 11-second range" and hit a top speed of 206 mph (331 km/h).
On the other hand, the SLS AMG Black Series has a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 622 bhp (464 kW) and 468 lb-ft (634 Nm) of torque. It enables the car to run from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).
The Viper clearly has the edge in the numbers department but is it enough to topple the almighty Black Series? Watch the clip to find out.
