The Shelby GT350H became an instant classic when it was introduced in 1966 and Hertz is looking to recreate some of that magic by teaming up with Penske Racing.
Looking instantly recognizable, the Hertz Penske Mustang GT clearly echoes the iconic Shelby as it features a familiar black and gold paint scheme. The model has also been equipped with a front splitter and a rear valence from the Shelby GT500.
The cabin comes nicely equipped with Recaro racing seats and the gauge pod from the Laguna Seca Mustang. There's also custom floor mats, special door sill plates and the MyFord Touch infotainment system.
Power is provided by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with a new air intake, a four-tailpipe exhaust system and an optimized ECU. Performance specifications were not released, but the standard engine develops 420 bhp (313 kW) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque.
Other highlights include a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes and 3.55 gearing.
According to Hertz CEO Mark Frissora, "There's nothing more thrilling than hitting the open road in a high-performance, American-built sports car. With this addition to our Adrenaline Collection, we are introducing a vehicle with race car performance enhancements to give customers a unique travel experience."
The Hertz Penske Mustang GT will be part of the Hertz Adrenaline Collection and will be available to rent at "select U.S. airport locations."
