MINI announces plans to axe the Coupe and Roadster

Will go out of production in a short while
MINI has disclosed plans to terminate production of the Coupe and Roadster, following an announcement made last November by MINI USA Product Planning Manager Patrick McKenna.
We knew this was coming as rumors regarding the demise of the two slow-selling MINIs have been circulating the web for almost a year and the company’s person in charge of US-spec models announced back in November the models will get the axe in 2015, without any signs of a replacements. The Paceman could suffer the same fate as most likely MINI will kill the model later this year.
MINI’s revised lineup will be reduced to only five models: the 3- and 5-door hatches, Clubman, Countryman and the Convertible. The latter was recently leaked in a batch of patent drawings and it should be out just in time for the summer. It will be followed by the new Clubman possibly in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show while the new Countryman should be out next year as a 2017MY.
These five cars are characterized by MINI as being "superhero" models and could be joined by a sixth member in the form of an entry-level MINI Minor developed by BMW in collaboration with Toyota.

Rolls-Royce has announced plans to introduce the Phantom Serenity at the Geneva Motor Show.
Designed to celebrate the "historical role played by silk as a symbol of regal and imperial power," the one-off model promises to have an opulent interior that draws inspiration from previous models built for Kings, Queens, Emperors and Empresses. The company also said we can expect "contemporary interpretations of European furniture combined with Japanese Royal Kimono designs."
That's not much to go on but the teaser image reveals the car will have bespoke instrument dials, smoked cherry wood trim and unique floor mats with silk accents. We can also expect woven silk seats, a silk "blossom" headliner and mother of pearl inlays.
The car will be unveiled on March 3rd, so stay tuned for full details.

Following last week’s online reveal, the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO has made its public debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
One of the most interesting LM P1 racers we’ve seen, the GT-R LM developed by Nissan and NISMO has a front-wheel drive layout with a front-mounted 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine working together with a kinetic energy recovery system. Output is transferred to the front axle via a 5-speed sequential transmission equipped with a limited-slip differential.
The carbon composite body panels and other weight-saving measures have enabled the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO tip the scales at just 1,940 lbs (880 kg). It sits on BBS 16-inch center-lock forged wheels made from magnesium and shod in Michelin tires. Stopping power comes from 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers and a brake-by-wire active brake system developed by NISMO.
Stepping inside the cabin, Nissan’s LM P1 racer has a 5-point harness, NISMO steering wheel (with LCD screen) and a lightweight fire extinguisher.
It will take part in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the LM P1 class, starting April 12 in UK at Silverstone and will then head to Spa, Le Mans, Nürburgring and other locations.

Signs of life emerged from Force India on Friday.
The Silverstone based team sat out the opening test of the winter at Jerez amid rumours of financial problems and crippling debts to suppliers.
Team racer Nico Hulkenberg has at least been filling his idle time with track action, testing the new Porsche in Bahrain this week ahead of his Le Mans debut later this year.
And it looks as though the delay in readying Force India's unseen new car, the VJM08, is set to continue as the rest of the sport prepares for next week's second test in Barcelona.
But Force India will at least be there at the Spanish grand prix venue.
It emerged on Friday that the Vijay Mallya-led team has packed up its transporters and is currently bound for Barcelona, albeit with only the 2014 car in the baggage.
Indeed, the 2015 machine has not yet seen the light of day, with Force India having 'launched' in Mexico City last month with a 2014 show-car fitted with a new-style nose.
Team figures, however, deny that Force India is in such trouble it might be in doubt for the Melbourne season opener.
But deputy boss Bob Fernley told the British broadcaster Sky that funding issues for midfield teams at present are "very critical".
So it was with some surprise that Force India recently blocked Marussia's bid for dispensation so it can start the 2015 season with its old car.
Fernley denied that was simply a grab for a share of the ailing team's official prize money millions, but he did admit: "Have we got some of our own issues? Yes we have, but we'll deal with those.
"It's tough. It would be wrong for me to say we're all having a wonderful time - we're having a tough time and costs are rising," he added.

The three-door Kia pro_cee'd coupe has been spied undergoing testing ahead of this year's programmed reveal.
In recent weeks we've seen the facelifted five-door cee'd hatchback testing in winter conditions and our spies also caught on camera the hotter GT version and now time has come to take a look at the more stylish pro_cee'd testing in a warmer climate. It wears camouflage on both front and rear fascias which could indicate they are hiding some big changes but taking into account sister model Hyundai i30 received only minor tweaks, chances are the facelifted cee’d range will also come with modest cosmetic revisions.
Perhaps some bigger changes will occur underneath the hood as those turbocharged 1.0- and 1.2-liter engines could finally replace the naturally aspirated 1.4- and 1.6-liter units. Output figures are expected to be similar while fuel consumption should go down considerably thanks to turbocharging. The standard six-speed manual gearbox could be joined by an optional newly developed seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which made its debut on the i30 facelift.
Kia will probably bring the revised cee’d range (hatchback, coupe, wagon and GT hatch & coupe) in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Ford Fiesta has received the RS treatment from Hungarian independent artist X-Tomi Design.
The attached renders have some background as Ford Performance manager Tyrone Johnson has already announced a beefier version of the Fiesta is in the works and will be positioned above the ST model. It will be based on the current chassis and chances are it will be out within the next two years. X-Tomi Design decided to envision a Fiesta RS based on the three-door version and with the Liquid Paint blue as applied on the Focus RS and the new GT but this special hue won't be commercially available.
The more potent Fiesta is being developed by the newly established Ford Performance division which was formed by merging the RS and Ford Racing branches. The hotter supermini will probably come with a four-cylinder 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine developing somewhere in the 220-230 bhp region taking into account the 1.6-liter EB inside the Fiesta ST (US-spec) puts out 197 bhp (147 kW).
The added oomph will be matched by a more aggressive body as illustrated above, together with larger alloys, stiffer & lower suspension and a rear wing along with some interior cabin enhancements such as body-hugging Recaro seats and a sporty trim with more aluminum accents.

Prior Design has introduced their new PD900GT widebody kit for the Mercedes SLS AMG.
Looking decidedly aggressive, the model has been equipped with a new front bumper, a front splitter and canards. Moving further back, we can see a ventilated hood, aerodynamic side skirts and widened fenders.
The sporty styling continues out back as there's a prominent rear wing, a new rear bumper and an aggressive diffuser.
The widebody kit will go on sale next month but there's no word on pricing.

Three NFL Players Will Win Custom Porsche 911 Carrera With Cheetah Graphics
Being the fastest runner in the NFL Scouting Combine sure has its advantages. Besides bragging rights, prospects with faster 40-yard dash times usually get picked higher in the draft and are subsequently rewarded with more lucrative contracts, but sporting apparel maker Adidas is sweetening the deal for this year's participants. In this case, the three NFL prospects with the fastest 40-yard dash times will each receive a "custom" Porsche 911 Carrera. But, as with everything else in life, there's a catch.
In order to win these white 911s with gold wheels and their questionable cheetah wraps, the prospects must first sign an endorsement contract with Adidas before the combine takes place later this month. Those who choose to sign with Adidas (and are one of the top three sprinters) are then eligible to lay claim to one of these Porsche coupes. USA Today reports that last year's fastest man, Brandin Cooks (now wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints), received $100,000 from Adidas for his 4.33-second 40-yard time. Just for comparison, a base 2015 911 Carrera costs $84,300, but that doesn't include the gold wheels or the cheetah plastered on each side of the car, which is probably enough to leave Ricky Bobby and his "ME" cougar a little jealous.
In the end, the car and the giveaway are aimed at creating a little buzz for Adidas' latest football cleats, the Adizero 5-Star 40. The cleats weight just 4.7 ounces and make use of high-strength, low-weight materials.

Bentley May Consider Coupe-Styled Bentayga Version
Bentley's first-ever SUV has already amassed no fewer than 4,000 preorders, with the model just recently being christened, but the British luxury carmaker doesn't want to stop with the Bentayga. According to Top Gear's Paul Horrell, who recently had a chat with Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer, the luxury SUV already has a brother on the drawing board, with two distinct options being carefully weighed by the company.
One of them is another Bentley standalone model to complement the Continental Coupe and Cabrio, the Flying Spur, Mulsanne and the upcoming Bentayga SUV. The other option would be another derivative of the SUV, with Horrell suggesting that a coupe version of the model may get the go-ahead. Duerheimer was coy about details, but did suggest that the second SUV would be more likely because of market demand. "The growing segment is SUVs. Convertibles are going down. Sports cars are going down. Saloons too." the Bentley boss told Top Gear.
That said, any other details about Bentley's near-future products would be pure speculation, but what is known for sure is that the brand's first SUV is coming at the end of 2015, with market launch to take place at the beginning of 2016. Whether the Bentayga will also get a five-door-coupe version to create its own micro-niche in the $200,000+ segment remains to be seen.

New Ferrari TBA Tomorrow
Passion, Design, and Performance are the words that Ferrari has chosen to recently describe their company and products in a set of teaser images that have just been released. Although the images don't actually show anything that remotely tells us about a product from Maranello, they do tell us a date; specifically tomorrow, February 3rd, 2015. Tomorrow, Ferrari will be debuting a new car, and although it is a secret for now, word on the street is that it will be a mid-cycle facelift for the 458 Italia.
The Ferrari 458 Modificata, as it is rumoured to be named, will most probably lose its high-revving naturally aspirated 4.5 liter V8 in favour for a Maserati-derived twin-turbocharged 3.8 Liter V8. This engine, also found in the California T, is expected to make about 666 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, which is a healthy 104 hp and 152 lb-ft bump up from the current 458 Italia. The reason for the switch is almost definitely due to ever more stringent CO2 emission and fuel consumption regulations. This engine will help Ferrari comply with these regulations better.
As I have stated in a previous post, more and more automakers are forced into a position where they cannot move forward with naturally aspirated engines. To get the power demanded by the customers and still comply with fuel efficiency and emission regulations, automakers must now move to forced-induction engines to meet all the required specifications needed for this type of vehicle and still comply with regulations.
Although Ferrari has had success with turbo engines in the past (F40 anyone?), there was something special about Ferrari's latest free-revving engines. The 458 Italia's wonderful V8 spun all the way to 9000 rpm, with a glorious soundtrack to match. This engine was praised for the almost instantaneous throttle response which let the 458 dance with the precision and delicacy that the turbo charged McLaren could never replicate. Mind you the engineers at Ferrari usually have a way of working their magic when they build engines, so let's hope that this turbocharged V8 is as good as their last one.

New Ferrari 488 GTB Embraces Turbos
As previously reported, Ferrari has just released information on an updated version of their mid-engine entry level sports car ahead of its' physical debut at the Geneva Auto Show later this year. What was once the 458 Italia is now known as the Ferrari 488 Gran Turismo Berlinetta, or 488 GTB.
Although the 488 GTB might only look like a mildly updated version of the 458, there is actually a lot that has been changed from the last car to this one. Instead of the naturally aspirated 4.5 Liter V8 found in the 458 Italia, the 488 GTB uses a new 3.9L twin turbo charged V8. The old V8 in the 458 was rated at 562 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, while the new, smaller V8 is making 661 hp and 561 lb-ft. That is an astonishing 99 hp and 163 lb-ft more than the previous model. Ferrari says that all this extra power and torque mean that the 488 GTB accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0-124 mph in 8.3 seconds, and a top speed of "over 204 mph". This, by any standards, is pretty darn quick and the upgrade in power also puts the 488 GTB directly against the 641hp McLaren 650S. Ferrari says that it will lap Fiorano in 1 minute and 23 seconds, which is actually one second faster than the 458 Speciale. Other changes include a new front and rear fascias, active aerodynamics, a 10 kg weight reduction, and new side air intakes for the engine.
While no one apart from the people within Maranello has seen the physical car, it is going to make its official debut at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show. Although pricing has yet to be announced, expect the 488 GTB to stay within the same price range as the 458 Italia it replaces.

Porsche Cayman GT4 officially unveiled with 385 PS [video]

Porsche has officially unveiled the Cayman GT4.
Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the car is being described as a "clear statement that Porsche will continue to promote radical two-door sports cars in the future."
Starting with the exterior, the Cayman GT4 has an aggressive front fascia with a front splitter and mesh grille inserts. Moving further back, we can see sportier side scoops, a larger rear spoiler and a fixed rear wing. The model also has a center-mounted dual exhaust system, a 30mm reduced ride height and high-performance brakes from the 911 GT3.
The cabin largely carries over but comes equipped with leather and Alcantara sport seats as well as a sport steering wheel.
Power is provided by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that develops 385 PS (283 kW). It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission that enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 295 km/h (183 km/h). Furthermore, Porsche says the model lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 40 seconds.
If that's not impressive enough, the Cayman GT4 can be equipped with a variety of options including carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber reinforced plastic seats and a special Sport Chrono Package with a unique Track Precision app - among other things.
The Cayman GT4 is currently available to order and German pricing starts at €85,779 (including VAT). U.S. pricing starts at $84,600 - excluding a $995 destination charge - and the first American deliveries are slated for July.

2015 Force India set to miss another test

Yet another official test will pass before Force India's 2015 car is debuted, it emerged on Wednesday.
Already absent at Jerez, the Silverstone based team is fending off speculation of financial trouble that could even mean the season opener in Melbourne is in doubt.
But Force India declared: "We'll be there come Melbourne."
What is becoming clear, however, is that - whatever the reason - supplier trouble is holding up the final build of the first Mercedes-powered VJM08.
The most likely outcome now is another missed session for the 2015 car, even though Barcelona in a fortnight is the second of just three pre-season tests.
"Although everybody is working towards getting the VJM08 to the next test session in Barcelona, it's more likely the new car will appear at the final Barcelona test," Force India admitted on Wednesday.
"So, that would mean running the 2014 car at the first Barcelona test," the team said.

We remind you the Crazy Color Edition represents an array of five special paints available at prices between €15,348.62 and €19,962.25.This particular paint is called Sunset Beam and is available for €18,913 on top of the G63 AMG's hefty starting price in Germany of €139,765.50.
It is probably a better idea to stick with a standard color and then apply a wrap or simply repaint the car rather than paying almost €19,000 for this striking hue. It should be mentioned the Sunset Beam paint and the other four (Tomato Red, Alien Green and Galactic Beam) are complemented by glossy black bumpers, side mirrors, fender flares and roof.

Citroen has announced a series of updates to the DS 4.
Starting under the hood, there's three new engines including a THP 165 S&S EAT6 that enables the model to return 5.5 L/100km (42.7 mpg US / 51.3 mpg UK) and have CO2 emissions of less than 130 g/km.
On the diesel side, the BlueHDi S&S 150 6-speed manual consumes 3.9 L/100km (60.3 mpg US / 72.4 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions of 100 g/km.
Lastly, the BlueHDi S&S 180 EAT6 offers an impressive combination of performance and fuel efficiency at it consumes 4.3 L/100km (54.7 mpg US / 65.7 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions of 113 g /km.
Besides the new powertrain options, higher-end variants receive passive entry, a push button ignition and a new touchscreen navigation system with a seven-inch display.
