2013 Ford F-150 04.6.2012
Could lose 700 lbs (317 kg)
To meet stricter fuel economy standards, the 2015 Ford F-150 will reportedly have aluminum bodywork.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Ford executives have said the change could enable the next-generation model to weigh about 700 pounds (317 kg) less than its predecessor. It remains unclear how extensive the switch will be, but speculation suggests the model could have an aluminum hood, fenders and doors.
The use of aluminum will undoubtedly improve fuel efficiency, but sources say it will come at a cost - a larger sticker price at the dealership. This could have an impact on sales but we should find out more when the truck is introduced in the summer of 2014.
