Lexus LFA & RC F coupes drift around the Fuji Speedway [video]

Lexus Japan has released a video which highlights their high-performance F models.

Dubbed a "Dance of F," the clip shows an LFA, two RC F coupes and two RC F race cars as they drift around the Fuji Speedway and perform a number of stunts.

While the star of the video went out of production over two years ago, the RC F features a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 467 bhp (348 kW) and 389 lb-ft (526 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, run the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h).

Raikkonen on track for 2016 Ferrari deal - reports

Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) / XPB Kimi Raikkonen is on track to securing a deal to stay at Ferrari beyond 2015.



When he rejoined Maranello from Lotus for 2014, the Finn signed a two-year contract.



Raikkonen, 35, struggled last year but is happier with this year's car alongside his new teammate and friend Sebastian Vettel.



"I could not imagine a better driver pairing," team boss Maurizio Arrivabene said in China last weekend.



It is believed Raikkonen's current Ferrari contract includes an 'option' for 2016 that must be triggered by Ferrari.



According to the Ferrari insider and blogger Leo Turrini, the Maranello team is currently considering doing just that.



And the F1 broadcaster Sky Italia is reporting similarly, adding that "the final decision will be taken on the basis of the next few races".

Cadillac has taken the wraps off the 2016 ELR which comes
with a plethora of upgrades.

Stylish but unpopular due to its exorbitant price tag, the
ELR has received a makeover for the 2016 model year, starting with the
lithium-ion battery which has increased in capacity from 16.5 kWh to 17.1 kWh. This has boosted electric range from 37 miles (60 km) to 39 miles (63 km)
while total range has decreased from 340 miles (547 km) to 330 miles (530 km). Once
the battery is depleted, a full recharge from a 240V source takes approximately
five hours.

Power has been lifted by more than 25% to 233 bhp (174 kW)
and 373 lb-ft (506 Nm) of torque which has shaved off 1.6 seconds from the 0-60
mph (0-96 km/h) that now takes in 6.4 seconds (with Performance Package). The
standard model tops out at 106 mph (170 km/h) while adding the optional Performance
Package will increase maximum speed to 130 mph (209 km/h).

The optional kit brings 20-inch sport wheels with
summer-only performance tires, front four-piston Brembo brake calipers with 13.6-inch
front vented rotors & 12.4-inch rear vented rotors, along with a sport
steering wheel and further calibration of the Continuous Damping Control and
electric power steering systems.

The list of changes doesn't end here as the 2016 ELR also
comes with an updated HiPer Strut front suspension, increased front
spring rates & stiffer rear axle, stiffer bushings and a front bumper
rebound spring. Moving inside, it gets three USB ports, 8-inch configurable
instrument and driver information displays, sueded microfiber headliner,
semi-aniline full leather seating and Power-assist covered storage/cup holder
in the center console.

Featuring a revised front grille and the company's new
crest, the first-gen Volt-based 2016 ELR will kick off at $58,495, after applying U.S. federal tax credits. This makes it considerably cheaper compared to the $67,500 2014MY after all the discounts.

German tuner Startech has transformed the Range Rover into a
pickup for this year's Auto Shanghai show which kicks off next week.

April Fools' Day was two weeks ago so this pickup Range
Rover is as real as it gets and represents the work of Startech who decided to
turn the large and luxurious SUV into a more utilitarian high-end pickup riding on
massive 23-inch wheels and packed with carbon fiber all around. No less than
100 bespoke components made from aluminum, steel and carbon fiber were tailor
made for this project and it also benefits from a plastic-lined bed providing a
load length of 110 cm. Opening the tailgate (by button or remote control) will
add 60cm for carrying cargo on the pickup's bed which has been welded to the
new shorter roof.

Startech also installed 80mm wider fenders, a custom roof
spoiler, additional LED lighting and various carbon fiber inserts while the
custom suspension can lower the pickup's ride height by 30mm. There's also a
custom exhaust system adding 16 PS (12 kW), thus bumping output of the
V8 5.0-liter supercharged engine to 526 PS (387 kW). It's enough muscle
to grant a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 5.3 seconds and an
electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Range Rover pickup will be offered with all engines as
well as with a plethora of interior and exterior customizations. Startech says they will bring it to Auto Shanghai 2015 which kicks off next week.

The second generation MINI Clubman has been spotted in S
guise undergoing final testing at the N rburgring.

It was more than a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show where
MINI previewed the second-gen Clubman through a near-production
concept and now they are putting the finishing touches on their six-door
wagon. The concept was 26cm longer and 17cm wider than the previous model and
chances are production car will retain these increased proportions together
with the split rear door layout.

While the first generation had three side doors (one left +
two right), the 2016
Clubman will boast a more conventional two left + two right configuration
granting access to a more spacious cabin as a result of stretching the
wheelbase. Noticeable in these latest spy shots is a slightly modified front
bumper with differently shaped air intakes along with air breathers sitting
next to the fog lights. Speaking of air breathers, MINI has installed a pair on
the rear bumper as well while the dual exhaust tips denote this is an S
version.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged
gasoline engine developing 192 PS (141 kW) and 280 Nm (300 Nm with overboost).
In the MINI Cooper S three-door hatch it enables a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 6.7
seconds and a 144 mph (233 km/h) top speed but the Clubman S will be slower due do the
higher weight.

MINI will probably decide to show us the second generation
Clubman in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

BMW says 1-Series Sedan will be a China-only affair, at least initially

BMW Australia's head of product and market planning Shawn
Ticehurst has reconfirmed the existence of a 1-Series Sedan.

It was September last year when the 1-Series Sedan was caught
on camera for the first time and now a BMW representative has reiterated the company's plans to launch a sedan version of its entry-level model which was recently facelifted. However, availability will be limited only to
China, but there are some chances of seeing it elsewhere sometime in the future
as Ticehurst responded with "never say never" when asked by Motoring to clearly
confirm the 1-Series Sedan won't make it to Australia.

From what we know so far, the BMW 1-Series Sedan will ride
on the same UKL platform like the 2-Series Active Tourer / Gran Tourer MPV duo
which means it will adopt a front-wheel drive layout. It will be powered by an
array of frugal turbocharged three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines while select
versions are getting an xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 tackles VIR [video]

Ford has released a new promotional video that highlights the 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350.

Filmed at Virginia International Raceway, the clip features vehicle dynamics development engineer Dave Harmison as he tests a GT350 prototype on the famous track.  While Harmison on touches on the basics, he says the car the car is "something that really is special at a race track, something that gives you a driving experience that's different than you'll get in any other product."

As a refresher, the Shelby GT350 features aggressive styling, an upgraded interior and a new 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine that develops more than 500 bhp (373 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.  It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission which sends to the rear wheels via a Torsen limited slip differential.

Volkswagen has unveiled the Scirocco GTS facelift ahead of
next week's world premiere at Auto Shanghai 2015 in China.

It was more than a year ago when Volkswagen refreshed
the Scirocco but without showing the GTS version which has now arrived with an
extra 10 PS (7 kW) compared to its predecessor.
The four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine now churns 220 PS (162
kW), just like in the Golf VII GTI. The engine can be paired to a standard six-speed
manual gearbox or an optional six-speed
DSG which allows the hot coupe hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 6.5
seconds before topping out at 244 km/h (246 km/h with the manual).

Aside from the power gain, the 2015 Volkswagen Scirocco also
comes with fresh 18-inch Norwich alloy while larger 19-inch Lugano rims will be
optionally available. Both are matched with red brake calipers and an R-Line
exterior package bringing R-styled bumpers, custom side sill extensions, roof
spoiler and a rear diffuser.

As a throwback to the 1982 Scirocco GTS, Volkswagen has
decided to paint the side mirror caps in black and there's also a sporty GTS
decal available as an option (standard for CN-spec model). Clients will be able
to order the model with one of the following exterior paint schemes: Flash Red,
Pure White, Oryx White, Urano Grey, Indium Grey and Deep Black.

Inside the cabin it gets a black headliner and sports
steering wheel with red seams and black piano lacquer with the GTS logo on the
lower spoke. The revised Scirocco also benefits from the Composition Colour
infotainment system, stainless steel pedals, golf ball gear knob and a chrome
trim package, among others. At an additional cost, customers will be able to
get black Vienna leather upholstery, bi-xenon headlights as well as a panoramic
tilt sunroof and a new multi-function steering wheel.

Next Hyundai Genesis Coupe Will Deliver More Than 400 HP

Rumors of the next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe receiving a 400+ horsepower engine have been floating around for quite a few months now, but the Koreans have yet to confirm such awesomeness. That much power may come from the company's new twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V-6, which according to Hyundai, could match the V-8's 420-horsepower rating, but a new report claims the coupe could receive a lot more power than that, thanks to the company's N Performance division.

According to The Korean Car Blog, quoting unnamed sources inside Hyundai, the turbocharged V-6 will crank out around 480 horses. If this turns out to be true, the range-topping Genesis Coupe will outgun most of its premium competitors in terms of horsepower, including the BMW M4 (425 horses) and the Audi RS5 (450 horses). The C63 Coupe S will be the only German to deliver more oomph at 503 horsepower. And needless to say, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT will be no match at 435 horses.

Could this be real? Well, I would grab a salt shaker under normal circumstances, but the mention of Hyundai's N Performance division makes this story a bit more credible. It's already known that the Koreans want to move up the premium ladder with the next Genesis Coupe, and a more powerful engine would make a lot of sense. Nowadays, premium isn't just about creature comforts, but performance as well. So here's to hoping!

Meet The Fastest Tractor In The World: Video

I've never been there, but I'd imagine things could get a bit monotonous in the frozen forests of Finland. So what do you do if you're stuck near the Arctic Circle and handed the keys to a high-performance piece of farm equipment weighing seven tons and outfitted with enormous, studded tires? Why, you go out and set a Guinness World Record for fastest speed ever recorded for tractors (obviously).

To help break up the long, cold winters, the hearty Scandinavians have been known to practice their ice and snow-driving skills with exacting precision, and thus, some of the world's best rally drivers hail from those northern lands. One such individual is four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen, who climbed aboard the above-featured Valtra T234 tractor to set a new top speed record of 130.165 km/h (80.88 mph). That's with a full interior, I might add.

You're probably asking yourself, "Why would anyone attempt this on snow?" The answer is simple: to prove it can be done. You see, Kankkunen's T234 came prepared with Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tires, the first tractor compound designed specifically for icy winter conditions. Apparently, it's also good for high-speed runs.

This video reminds me of all the other ridiculous speed records out there, like world's fastest lawn mower or V-8-powered barstool. Ah yes, that's the nature of the indomitable human spirit. If it goes, you can bet there's someone out there who wants it to go faster, even if it's a bit... odd.

Porsche Could Offer Boxster Spyder GT4

When Stuttgart unveiled the new Cayman GT4, performance enthusiasts everywhere went bananas. The two-door sports car embraces a focused approach to driving purity, with a variety of components pulled from the 911 GT3 that make for a vehicle that's highly capable both on back roads and the race track. Demand for the GT4 is much higher than Porsche expected, so the German automaker is rumored to be considering a GT4 version of the new Boxster Spyder.

"We are looking at it right now," said an anonymous senior source at Porsche, as reported by the UK-based publication AutoCar. "Much of the engineering has already been done for the Cayman, so we think this might be a good direction for us."

A new top-range Boxster may crowd Porsche's catalog slightly, especially considering the minor price disparity between the Spyder and Cayman GT4. However, a roofless GT4 may entice buyers looking for higher speeds combined with unlimited headroom.

The same 3.8-liter flat-six engine shoehorned into the Cayman GT4 can currently be found in the Boxster Spyder. Upgraded equipment for a Boxster GT4 would probably include adjustable suspension components and brakes pilfered from the GT3 parts bin. The aerodynamics package would also most likely get an aggressive refresh.

Officials defend Alonso amid latest rumours

Fernando Alonso (ESP) / XPB Two leading figures in Spanish motor sport have hit back at the latest rumours about Fernando Alonso's Barcelona testing crash.



German publications are openly doubting the honesty of Alonso's claim in Malaysia that he crashed because the steering on his McLaren-Honda "locked".



The highly respected Auto Motor und Sport correspondent Michael Schmidt said he had spoken to multiple people with knowledge of the telemetry data collected from the Spaniard's car.



Their unanimous opinion is that Alonso's claim about the steering is "impossible", as the data "clearly shows that everything with the steering was fine".



"Alonso never even tried to steer left, as the torque sensors on the steering wheel would have shown it," Schmidt added.



And the German magazine Auto Bild is running a similar analysis in its latest edition.



Nonetheless, the president of Spain's motor racing federation Carlos Gracia said he is standing behind Alonso.



Gracia, who is close to F1's governing body, confirmed to Spain's El Confidential newspaper that he had "exchanged views" on the topic with the FIA.



"In the end, the one who really knows what happened is Fernando," he said. "Fernando was physically and mentally perfect, and so to have that accident, something must have happened to his car, as he has said."



A well-known former FIA steward Joaquin Verdegay, meanwhile, urged the media to finally move on after an intense period of speculation.



"It is a shame that media professionals and journalists who pay little or no attention to racing as a sport continue with a story that is now in the past," he wrote in El Mundo newspaper.



"They are trying to create news and controversy where there is none."

Mercedes-Benz has released full German pricing details for
the GLE
which is already available on order.

The most affordable version money can buy will be the GLE
250 d with 204 HP (150 kW) priced from 53,966 and it can also be had in 4MATIC
guise from 56,703. Up next is the GLE 350 d 4MATIC with 258 HP (190 kW) available
at a starting price of 60,749 while the GLE 400 4MATIC with 333 HP (245 kW)
will set you back 60,928.

The plug-in hybrid GLE 500 e 4MATIC with a combined output
of 442 HP (325 kW) kicks off at 73,899 while the GLE 500 4MATIC is priced at
76,874. The range-topping GLE 63 4MATIC with 557 HP (410 kW) is available at a
hefty 111,384 and there's also a more powerful S version rated at 585 HP (430
kW) which starts at 121,261.

For more money, customers are able to configure the GLE with
an AMG Line exterior package bringing among others AMG front & rear aprons
and 20-inch AMG wheels while the optional Night package comes with a high-gloss
black treatment for the mirror housings, window weatherstrips, radiator grille
louvers and the 20-inch AMG alloys. You can get mirror-mounted
LED projectors showing the three-pointed star logo and there are also some
new assistance systems like Crosswind Assist and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST
PLUS.

Mercedes-Benz says deliveries of the GLE are programmed to
commence in August.

Mercedes hints again at Maybach SUV

Mercedes-Benz vice-president of SUVs Wolf Dieter-Kurz
said a Maybach-branded SUV is under consideration.

Bentley is preparing to launch its first ever SUV called "Bentayga" while Rolls-Royce is also working on their first
high-riding model so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Daimler is
analyzing the prospects of coming out with an ultra-luxurious SUV. Likely to be
green-lighted for production, the model in question will be part of the
Mercedes-Maybach division and is going to be based on the GLS (GL facelift).

It will join the Mercedes-Maybach
S-Class and according to Wolf Dieter-Kurz it will likely be offered
as a hybrid, probably with an adaptation of the hardware found inside the GLE
500e. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will likely come with a longer wheelbase granting
a more spacious interior cabin which should be even more luxurious compared to
the regular GLS. On the outside, expect a Maybach-specific grille, wheels and
the compulsory badges.

There's no word about a price tag, bust obviously it will
cost more than the current GL which kicks off at 74,285 for the GLE 350
BlueTEC 4MATIC version and from 76,160 for the GLE 400 MATIC. We won't be too
surprised if the Maybach GLS will hover over the 110,000 mark for the base engine.

As a final note, Wolf Dieter-Kurz said other models could benefit from the Maybach treatment, and chances are he was referring to the next generation E-Class.

Mercedes GLC spied thinly camouflaged

The Mercedes-Benz GLC
has been photographed testing ahead of its official debut, reportedly set for
June this year.

The successor of the
GLK will have a far more stylish design and judging by this spy photo it will
also be slightly bigger. Previous spy photos revealed the interior of the
machine will be heavily influenced by the C-Class with a tablet-style central
display and three round air vents on the center console.

Riding on the MRA platform,
the vehicle will borrow its engine lineup from the C-Class and most of its
hardware. Mercedes-Benz already announced a crossover coupe based on the CLC will debut later this month at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The GLC is expected to
receive the AMG treatment later in its lifespan, probably getting a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter unit. The new SUV will also be offered in LHD and
RHD drive configuration, which means It will be commercialized in new markets,
including UK, Australia, Japan and India.

Mercedes confirms their pickup will be built by Nissan

Daimler and Renault-Nissan have confirmed the upcoming Mercedes pickup truck will be loosely based on the Nissan NP300 / Navara.

Set to be built by Nissan - at plants in Barcelona, Spain and Cordoba, Argentina - the Mercedes pickup will use some of the architecture that underpins the NP300.  However, it will be designed and engineered to meet the specific needs of Mercedes' customers.

The companies were coy on specifications but confirmed the model will be offered in a double cab configuration.  They also said the truck will have "all of Mercedes Benz' distinctive characteristics and features."

In a statement, Daimler Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche said "Entering the rapidly growing segment of midsize pickups is an important step in continuing our global growth path. Thanks to our well-established partnership with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, we are able to drastically reduce the time and cost to enter this key segment."

His sentiments were echoed by Renault-Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn who said "Thanks to our cooperation with Daimler on this project, we will be able to share the cost of investment at the Cordoba plant, while at the same time open up new markets in the Latin American region for the Renault-Nissan Alliance."  He added, "This project will also allow us to optimize production capacity at the Barcelona plant and enhance our competitiveness in an important segment."

Vauxhall Viva pricing announced, goes on sale this summer

Vauxhall has announced the 2015 Viva will be priced from 7,995 when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom this summer.

Despite its small price tag, the Viva SE comes equipped with fog lights, power windows and a multifunction steering wheel. 

The model also has an assortment of safety equipment including a tire pressure monitoring system and a lane departure warning system.  There's also traction control, cornering brake control, emergency brake assist and straight line stability control - just to name a few.

Drivers looking for something more eco-friendly can opt for the Viva SE ecoFLEX which starts at 8,170.  It features a front lip spoiler, a larger rear spoiler and ultra-low rolling resistance tires.

Moving up to the 9,495 Viva SL adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Morocanna seats and an electronic climate control system.  There's also a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth / USB connectivity and 15-inch alloy wheels.

All the aforementioned models are powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 75 PS (55 kW). It enables the SE and SL variants to return 62.8 mpg UK, while the SE ecoFLEX returns 65.7 mpg UK.
